Due to continuously accelerating development and push for innovations, our department has decided to find use for augmented reality in the automotive industry. We have selected HoloLens 2 glasses by Microsoft for this purpose and tested it in two manners – Interactive Checklists and Remote Assist.

Application with interactive checklists is used as an instruction for maintenance or possible necessary repair of Škoda Auto car production machinery. Upon starting the app, simply scan the QR Code placed on the machine and the navigation will then take you step-by-step through the complete machine maintenance, including interactive tools, such as photos and videos.

The second mode of use, which we have already tested, is support using remote access via the Remote Assist app. User of the glasses may use this app to simply connect via Microsoft Teams with a colleague anywhere in the world and using the glasses camera project to them the actual place of the control. This method of use will bring great economy to Škoda Auto in the future in travel expenses of colleagues, who currently have to travel from other countries to perform a task on site.
