Project's goal

Assistance in the production of 3D printed plastic moulded parts for welding and trimming jigs - cooperation with the PSW-V department Production of welding tools and jigs.

Results

Real production of 3D printed tools and use of the synergy of the "3D Printing in PS" working group for optimal use of the available 3D printer capacities at Škoda Auto.

Solution

Plastic 3D printing in Škoda Auto production has already found out and continues to find out a range of projects and applications where it makes sense to use this technology with all benefits. Within the newly formed 3D printing working group from the area of PS - Brand Management, represented by the departments PSZ - Central Technical Service, PSW - Toolmaking and PSI - Industrial Engineering, one of the important points of cooperation should be the synergy of these departments with the issue of sharing spare plastic 3D printing capacity. In this case, shaped parts (tools) had to be produced for the PSW-V Welding Tool and Fixture Fabrication department in the short period of time. The simple concept of the solution was based on the uniformed preparation of data for the 3D printer, which could then be used across users (valid for Original Prusa i3 MK3S/+ printers). The actual implementation consisted of sending out the necessary data and distributing the filaments to the individual departments, where the actual production was already underway. Thanks to this cooperation, the required parts were produced, helping colleagues to complete the project successfully and on time.

Benefits and details (in points)

  • Simple solution concept
  • Utilization of available capacities within the synergy of the "3D Printing in PS" group
  • Assistance in meeting the project work schedule
  • No need to use the services of external suppliers
