Project's goal

The aim of the project was to create a system for online monitoring of the deflection of the steel structure based on the request of colleagues from the M12 welding shop. This system allows monitoring of maximum and minimum deflections of the steel structure during the passage through the body and eliminates manual measurements.

Results

The result was the implementation of a network of online sensors that communicate via the internal LoRaWAN network and the display of the deflection in the Power BI tool.

Solution description

To monitor the deflection of the steel structure, we chose a system of nine OHM551 optical distance sensors placed between the beams to ensure uniform sensing along the entire line. For communication with the superior system and visualization, we chose I/O modules communicating via the internal LoRaWAN network, which is suitable for applications where fast real-time communication and a large data flow are not needed. The data is then passed to a database and displayed in the Power BI tool.

Benefits and Details

  • The system allows online monitoring of the steel structure, serving as informative measurements
  • Verification of communication via LoRaWAN in the M12 welding shop
  • Provides a support system to the legislative requirements for steel structures for users
