#Control and Diagnostic Systems #Predictive maintenance #Diagnostics

Project's goal

Verify the use of thermo-diagnostics to detect a failure of the carrier drive and to set the limits for condition monitoring, which will be used during the final implementation of diagnostics.

Predictive maintenance

Results

It has been verified that thermo-diagnostics can be used to detect a failure in the carrier drive and that all drives are very similar in temperature. A limit has been defined for the condition monitoring diagnostic system.

Description of solution

There are occasional failures of carrier drives on the UBS line in the Kvasiny Paint Shop. So far, the production line has been without any predictive system to warn of any imminent failure. That is why our colleagues from Kvasiny contacted us with a request for help. So we offered them to use thermo-diagnostics as an option, which we have developed ourselves at Škoda FabLab. We can detect the rising temperature of a drive with this system, and so provide a timely warning of an impending failure.

The temperature of the UBS line carrier drives at the Kvasiny Paint Shop is measured at present by using this standard thermo-diagnostic system by Škoda FabLab. The system consisting of two thermal cameras stores the maximum, minimum and the differential temperature in the database, and based on the data evaluation, the maintenance team is warned in time that a drive failure is imminent. Data is being collected on this line, which will be used to set the limits for this condition monitoring measurement. After completing the data collection and collecting tens of thousands of measured values, we were able to define the maximum limit of 29.7 °C for the condition monitoring diagnostic system (see the attached photo).

Benefits

  • Verification and deployment of an automatic method of predictive maintenance
  • Savings by measurement of around 20 thousand EUR for the Proof of Concept project
  • Extended know-how on the possibility of using thermo-diagnostics directly in production facilities
  • Further extension to the HRK line is also planned
